typically any photo editor, including that free online one Picnik (after choosing a free template and removing 'kookiness')
i used a downloadable one called Photoscape, and at the top of the page, there are tabs (such as Editor, Viewer, and Combine) and to make a diptych, it's under the tab Page.
but i'm sure a bunch of other photo editors have the option of diptych-ness!
